Fort Madison is a city in southeastern Iowa along the Mississippi River, with a population of about 10,000 people as of the 2020 census. It is home to the oldest state prison west of the Mississippi, the Iowa State Penitentiary, which was established in 1839. The city was originally a U.S. military fort built in 1808 but was abandoned in 1813 after conflicts with Native American tribes during the War of 1812.

The Fort Madison Railroad webcam provides a live view of the BNSF Railway mainline and the Fort Madison Toll Bridge, a double-deck swing bridge over the Mississippi River. The webcam includes sound, capturing train horns and ambient noise as freight trains and Amtrak's Southwest Chief cross the bridge. Built in 1927, the bridge was originally used for both rail and vehicle traffic, but today only trains use the lower deck, while the upper deck is closed to cars.
