This 65-acre offshore island situated in the outer Penobscot Bay is about 1 mile long and 300 yards wide. The NWR supports numerous seabird colonies with different types of birds available for you to see: Common Elders, Razorbills, Atlantic Puffins, Roseate Terns, Great Cormorants, Herrings, Black Guillemots etc.
Incidentally, Seal Island NWR is under complete ownership of the Wildlife Service’s Maine Coastal Islands NWR. It, on the other hand, is cooperatively managed by MCINWR and the National Audubon Society.
