Mexico City is the capital and largest city of Mexico, with more than 9 million residents and over 20 million people in its metropolitan area. It was originally founded in 1325 by the Aztecs as the island city of Tenochtitlan in a large lake. After the Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, the Spanish rebuilt the city and made it the political and cultural center of colonial New Spain. Today the city lies at an altitude of about 2,240 meters in a high valley surrounded by mountains and volcanoes. Its historic center features famous landmarks such as the main square Zócalo and the archaeological site of Templo Mayor. Mexico City is known for its rich history, vibrant neighborhoods, world-class museums, and one of the most diverse food scenes in Latin America.

The webcam overlooking Plaza de la Constitución shows a live view of the main square in Mexico City, commonly known as the Zócalo. The camera captures the vast open plaza surrounded by historic buildings, including the impressive Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace. In the center of the square a giant Mexican flag is raised on a tall flagpole, making it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. The plaza frequently hosts public events, cultural celebrations, and large gatherings. At times viewers can also see rows of temporary tents set up across parts of the square, often related to protests, demonstrations, or organized events. This webcam provides a fascinating live look at the busy civic and cultural heart of the Mexican capital.
