Giant pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are native to China, mainly living in the bamboo forests of Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces. They can grow up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) long, weigh between 70-125 kg (154-276 lbs), and live around 20 years in the wild or over 30 years in captivity. Although classified as carnivores, pandas rely on 99% bamboo, eating up to 38 kg (84 lbs) daily to sustain themselves. As of 2023, their wild population is about 1,864, and they are listed as "Vulnerable" due to successful conservation efforts.
