Plum Island Beach
Plum Island Beach is a beautiful barrier island beach on the northeastern coast of Massachusetts, stretching for about 11 miles (18 km) along the Atlantic Ocean. It is shared by the communities of Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, and Ipswich, and is home to around 700 year-round residents, with many more visitors during the summer. The beach is known for its wide sandy shoreline, rolling dunes, and excellent opportunities for swimming, surfing, fishing, and birdwatching. A large section of the island is protected as part of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, providing important habitat for migratory birds and the endangered piping plover. Visitors also enjoy scenic walking trails, breathtaking sunrises over the Atlantic, and peaceful coastal landscapes throughout the year.
