Faa'a International Airport (PPT) is located in Faa'a, 5 km (3.1 mi) southwest of Papeete, at an elevation of just 2 m (7 ft) above sea level. It has a single runway 04/22, measuring 3,420 m (11,220 ft) long and 45 m (148 ft) wide, capable of handling large aircraft such as Boeing 747s and 787s, and even Airbus A380s if required. In 2023, the airport handled around 1.7 million passengers and over 44,000 aircraft movements, making it the busiest airport in French Polynesia. Airlines based here include Air Tahiti, which operates ATR turboprops for inter-island flights, and Air Tahiti Nui, which flies Boeing 787s internationally, while other carriers such as Air France, French Bee, and Hawaiian Airlines connect the island to major global destinations. Built partly on reclaimed coral reef due to Tahiti’s steep terrain, PPT is the only international gateway to French Polynesia, making it both technically unique and strategically vital.

The webcams positioned in buildings across the road from Faa'a International Airport that provide a view of the apron, allowing viewers to observe parked aircraft from a distance. The same cameras also capture aircraft taxiing, taking off, and landing on the main runway, making them popular among aviation enthusiasts and travelers alike. Thanks to their vantage point, the webcams showcase both the airport's busy operations and the scenic backdrop of Tahiti's lagoon.
