Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas and the largest city in the Amazon rainforest. It has a population of about 2.2 million people, making it one of the biggest urban centers in northern Brazil. Manaus is located at the confluence of the Rio Negro and the Amazon River. The city grew rapidly during the rubber boom in the late 19th century and remains an important economic hub. One of its most famous landmarks is the Amazon Theatre, known for its grand architecture. Today, Manaus serves as a gateway to the Amazon, attracting visitors interested in rainforest tours and wildlife.

Teatro Amazonas

The webcam shows a live view of Teatro Amazonas, capturing the elegant façade and the lively square where people gather in the heart of Manaus. The camera is positioned from the plaza, offering a clear perspective of the building's pink exterior and its colorful tiled dome. Construction of the theater began in 1884 and it officially opened in 1896 during the rubber boom era. It is unique because such a grand European-style opera house was built deep in the rainforest using imported materials like Italian marble and French glass. Its dome, decorated with thousands of tiles in the colors of the Brazilian flag, makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in South America.
