The railway passes through industrial areas and parts of the city, supporting manufacturing and commerce. It connects with major regional railroads, enabling freight to reach broader national markets. The line has historical roots from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reflecting the growth of industry in the region. Today, Thomasville Railway continues to operate as an important local freight corridor, linking the city to larger transportation networks.

The webcam is set inside the historic 1871 Southern Railway depot. It overlooks Norfolk Southernэs Danville District, part of the Piedmont Division and the former Southern Railway mainline between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. On average, 35 trains pass daily, including Norfolk Southern intermodal, manifest, and unit freight trains, along with Amtrak's Crescent, Carolinian, and Piedmont passenger services. The south camera shows the grade crossing at Milepost 306.1 at Fisher Ferry Road, providing a close-up view of trains as they move through town.
