Nantahala River

The Nantahala River flows through the scenic mountains of western North Carolina and is known for its clear, cold water and popular whitewater rafting routes. It runs through the picturesque Nantahala Gorge in the Nantahala National Forest. The river is controlled by water releases from Nantahala Dam, which helps maintain steady flows ideal for rafting, kayaking, and fishing. Sections of the river are famous for beginner-friendly rapids that attract outdoor enthusiasts throughout the year. Visitors typically find calm scenic surroundings, forested slopes, and well-managed recreational facilities along the river.

The webcam looks at the Nantahala River in the community of Wesser. The camera is placed near River's End Restaurant, which is also visible in the view beside the river. This location lies along US Highway 19 in the Nantahala Gorge, about 13 miles west of Bryson City. Viewers can see two bridges that cross the river near this spot. One bridge is a wooden pedestrian bridge used by hikers where the Appalachian Trail crosses the river. The second bridge carries cars on the highway that runs through the gorge.
