The London Underground is one of the oldest metro systems in the world, opening in 1863. It serves London and surrounding areas with an extensive network of deep-level and sub-surface lines. It has 11 lines and around 270 stations, making it one of the largest urban rail systems in the world. The network stretches about 400 kilometers (250 miles), connecting central London with outer areas and places like Epping. Millions of passengers use it every day, with over a billion journeys made each year.
The webcam at Epping station shows live trains on the Central line and is hosted by the Epping Signal Cabin Museum, which is next to the tracks. It displays trains arriving and leaving on the London Underground and activity around the station. Epping is about 14–16 miles (22–26 km) from central London. It is connected by the Central line and is the eastern end of that line.
