York, Maine is a historic town in the southern part of the state, with a population of about 13,700. It is one of the oldest English settlements in New England, first established in 1624. The town stretches along the Atlantic coast and includes several villages, such as York Village, York Harbor, York Beach, and Cape Neddick. York is famous for its scenic beaches, including Long Sands and Short Sands, and the iconic Cape Neddick “Nubble” Lighthouse. The area also offers natural attractions like hiking trails on Mt. Agamenticus and scenic coastal views. Today, York combines historic charm with seasonal tourism, attracting visitors for its beaches, history, and seaside activities.

The webcams show views from a restaurant on Long Beach Avenue in York Beach, capturing two different sides of the beach. One camera looks along Long Sands Beach, a long, open stretch of sand about 1.3 miles(2.1 km) where visitors can swim, surf, or relax by the water. The other camera captures Short Sands Beach, a shorter and more central section of the beach surrounded by shops, restaurants, and arcades, giving a lively, town-side perspective. Long Sands is ideal for long walks and active beach activities, while Short Sands offers a more social and scenic atmosphere. The best time to visit is during summer, from mid-June to early September, when the weather is warm, the water is swimmable, and beach amenities are available.
