Amsterdam Bridge Reconstruction

The railway bridges east of Amsterdam Central Station form the main eastern approach where trains leave the station and fan out toward the rest of the Netherlands. Built more than a century ago, these bridges have reached the end of their technical lifespan and no longer meet modern safety and capacity requirements. They carry some of the busiest rail traffic in the country, making them critical to both national and international train services. To keep trains running, the bridges are being replaced one by one over a period of about five years, with only a single bridge taken out of service at a time. The work involves removing the old structures, upgrading foundations where needed, and installing brand-new bridges designed for heavier loads and more frequent trains. Once completed, the renewed bridges will secure the future of rail traffic through Amsterdam Central and support the station's long-term growth.

The webcams show the live reconstruction of the five railway bridges located just east of Amsterdam Central Station. From the cameras views, you can watch old bridge sections being dismantled, massive cranes lifting new components into place, and workers reshaping the rail infrastructure in real time. Trains still pass through the area, offering a fascinating contrast between everyday rail operations and large-scale construction. The project highlights how critical infrastructure is renewed in a dense urban setting without shutting the city down.
