St. John's (also known as the City of Legends) is known to some as one of the oldest English towns still in existence though it was only established in 1888. On a map handwritten by Sebastian Cabot in Latin, Sebastian claims that he and his father, John Cabot discovered St. John's in 1494 and named it because it was founded on the day of the Feast of John the Baptist. Situated on the Avalon Peninsula on the island of Newfoundland, St. John's is both the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as its largest city with a population of over 200,000.
