Santos Waterfront
Santos is a major coastal city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, located about 75 km southeast of the city of São Paulo. It has a population of roughly 440,000 people, while the wider metropolitan area has well over one million residents. Santos is best known for the Port of Santos, the largest port in Latin America and one of the busiest in the Southern Hemisphere. The city has a tropical coastal climate, long sandy beaches, and one of the world's longest beachfront garden promenades. Santos is also famous in sports history as the home of Santos Futebol Clube, where legendary footballer Pelé spent most of his career. With its mix of maritime industry, tourism, and historic architecture, Santos is considered one of Brazil's most important port and beach cities.
The webcam is located at the Atlantic entrance to the shipping channel that leads into the Port of Santos. It provides a live view of the canal mouth where large container ships, cruise liners, tugboats, and cargo vessels enter and leave Brazil's busiest port. The camera overlooks the estuary, Santos Bay, and parts of the waterfront, so viewers can also watch changing coastal weather and sea conditions in real time. The navigation channel is about 24.6 km (15.3 miles) long, roughly 220 m (722 feet) wide, and around 15 m (49 feet) deep, making it a major maritime gateway for Brazilian trade.
