The Jet d'Eau fountain is Geneva Switzerland's most famous landmarks, jettisoning 130 gallons of water 460 feet into the air and used as the official logo of the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) Championship games in 2008. First created in 1886, it was originally located further down river at the Usine de la Coulouvrenière and was used as a safety value for Geneva's hydraulic power network. The beauty of the fountain the jet created was recognized and in 1891, the jet was moved to its current location as a center piece for the Federal Gymnastics Festival along with the 600th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation.
